U.S. Department of Transportation - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
Above are cards designed by Art Director Clark Fairfield that were used to activate the Web Augmented Reality experience we worked on.
Client: DOT (Department of Transportation) FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration)
Audience: Early to New Drivers
Art Directors: Ugur Ozkardesler and Clark Fairfield
My role on this was as Interactive Content Designer working at Yes& with the creative team to concept, research vendors, and develop a new technology promotional piece for Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The project was to do a soft launch of an Augmented Reality experience leveraging existing instructional videos. I researched and collaborated with a vendor to develop an AR experience that used 4 physical cards that had an AR marker to align a small digital street showcasing 3 messages; Blind Spots, Wide Turns, Long Stopping Distances, and the 4th card launched a menu to access all 3.
The tricky item was working with the clients needs to not have an app to download. So myself and the team aligned vendors and worked with developing a Web Based AR solution that was quickly turned around for a soft launch at a convention.
When presenting initial concepts I put together another phase where a game could add social interaction/sharing and entertaining education for early to new drivers.
Gamification
With my previous experience of Game Design and Development I came up with a concept to create an online/mobile edutainment game experience to get the concept across of reaction time, stopping speeds. and truck blind spots. The main focus was to put the user in control to let them experience and with scoring and feedback have an incentive to share and challenge others to get higher scores or unlock rewards. This game could be its own virtual style where the UX/UI could have on-screen controls or the user can put on VR Goggles of different quality to be immersed in the experience.
